Hola!
We ran into a bunch of Jehovah Witnesses this week! We knocked on a door
and as soon as he saw us he said, "Let me go get my Bible." We were a little
nervous, but he and his wife were super nice. We had a cool conversation, but
the crap hit the fan when he said:
At church we were sitting in Gospel Doctrines and the Hermana was teaching
about the word of wisdom. Before we knew it the board read:

This week we got to do service twice! We go to a food pantry and restock
shelves and fill bags of food for people. We do it for about 2 hours every
Wednesday and Friday. It is a great opportunity to meet a lot of cool
people.
This week I learned why missionaries usually gain so much weight on their
mission. We have one member who insisted on us coming to dinner with her three
days in a row, which was a blessing because usually no one signs up to feed us!
She just keeps filling our plates then she packs little bags for us to take
home. Saturday we got In and Out (because California) then we went to this
members house just to make sure she was coming to church on Sunday. When we
showed up she had made us burgers and chocolate cake...oh my...my body hated me
after that! I had two burgers and chocolate cake in my stomach as I biked and I
felt like dying. I need to remember to eat really healthy when I cook for
myself!
On Friday I had my first exchanges. I was soooo nervous because my companion was going to a different area which meant I was in charge of our area. I kept thinking, "I just got here. I don't know the area. The members barely know who I am. I can't do this!" Then Heavenly Father said, "calm down Hermana Barfuss. You do not have to do this alone!" It turned out to be the best experience. I realized I did know the area and I could speak a lot more spanish than I thought. Doing scary things is so important. Trust God! God did not send us here to fail. We are here to learn and grow and stretch which can be SOOOOO SCARY sometimes, but God is there every step of the way.

Quote, "The angels came down and had sex with the humans and
created hybrids, so God sent a flood..." Hmmmm we weren't really sure what to
say hahaa.
I also ran into my old home teacher from BYU at church yesterday. I knew
he was from LA, but he was visiting his mom who happens to live in our ward! I
had to do a double take. It is weird to see people from back home or from
college. It is like my two lives are colliding.
At church we were sitting in Gospel Doctrines and the Hermana was teaching
about the word of wisdom. Before we knew it the board read:
Do not partake of
1. Te and Cafe
2. Alcohol
3. Tabaco
4. Drogas
5. Coca-cola
Coca cola?! What? Someone had said we cannot drink any caffeine, and
everyone was agreeing, so all of the missionaries looked at each other and did a
quick "Nose Goes" My companion lost so she raised her hand and said that we
should stay away from things that are addictive, but drinking pop is a personal
choice. 99% of the members are converts, so sometimes that doctrine gets a
little mixed up. Like one time a lady was preaching that we can't cook on
Sunday!
Elder Orellana from my district says I look exactly like his
friend...it is not a great picture, but we could be twins. Elder Orellana's
friend is the white one hahaha
Thanks for sending a new camera. You are the best! Have so much fun in
Oregon! Party hard, and get some bacon soda!
Les Amo muchisimo!!! I love that video about Lifting Kathy. There are so
many people in need. Simple acts of service can make all the difference in
someone's life.
The Lord is always giving us opportunities to serve.
Love ya,
Hermana Moo
